To commemorate the historic Visit of HH Pope Benedict XVI to England and Scotland in September, the Victoria and Albert Museum, in collaboration with the Vatican Museums will hold a unique exhibition titled:

Of all the things I knew about Rome and Italy before my first visit, the Italian love affair with coffee always struck me as odd. How could anybody make such a big deal about such an awkward, bitter and probably bad for you brew.

Fraschette

What could be a better subject for our first article than food and wine?

So let’s start from a very traditional place, the “fraschette” (pronounced fraskɛttɛ). These are the typical, rustic osteria quite popular in the area of the Castelli Romani, which comprehends small towns like Frascati, Grottaferrata, Ariccia, spread over the Alban Hills, at a short distance south-east of Rome.
